EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
WORK ETHICS: RESPECTING OTHERS
Long hours at hard and strenuous work sometimes create strained and uncomfortable situations between work mates. You may not know or like the person you are working with, but you must be able to tolerate them.
Consideration and respect for others is a big part of working as a great team. Helping and teaching others benefits the whole group. Negative attitudes and comments only bring everyone down. Positive and helpful comments and actions keep everyone working as a team.
SUBSTANCE AND ALCOHOL ABUSE:
ALCOHOL OR ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!!
There will be no drinking alcohol or drug use anywhere or anytime while on assignment. Not with meals, in motels, in vehicles, purchased at stores, on fire line or soliciting bars. ABSOLUTELY NONE!!!!! As a professional and working in the public eye this type of behavior is unacceptable. Not only is it dangerous and illegal, it is against company policy. Breaking company and government rules on alcohol and drugs is grounds for immediate termination.
TRAVEL:
Public behavior is very important. As a group and firefighters you are put in the public eye. People (the public) respect the service you do and you represent safety and assurance to them.
Good manners, proper language, personal appearance and group activities are very much a part of being in the public eye. Please represent yourself, the company and your fellow crewmembers respectfully.
VEHICLES:
Respect others and equipment. Pick up after your self. No one should have to do that for you. Everyone needs to take an interest in appearance of equipment and vehicles. If you see something that needs to be done do it or find the person responsible and pitch in and help them.
PICKUP…CLEANUP…FILLUP…FIXUP…GET IT READY FOR NEXT ASSIGNMENT.
THIS EQUIPMENT WILL KEEP YOU IN A JOB AND MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE.
FIRE CAMP:
Is a structured, patrolled environment. Firefighters are expected to keep a civil maintained behavior. The government agency has provided these facilities for your comfort, safety and necessities. We, as a company and you as a guest and firefighter are to abide by all rules set by the government.
Harassment of any kind is not tolerated. Alcohol, drugs, fighting, foul language or any disruptive behavior will not be acceptable. You must be respectful of fellow firefighters, government employees and civilian employees working in the fire camps.
DISPATCH PROTOCOL:
Fire season is only a few months out of the year, approx. June to Oct. You may or may not work full time. So you must commit yourself to being available and on time for dispatches. It would be very disappointing to miss a long tour that could be your only tour. As a crew member you have a responsibility to your fellow crewmembers to be there for them. Each hand crew and engine crew must meet a required quota, criteria of individuals and a time frame before they can be dispatched. If a crew does not meet these requirements they will be canceled and everyone loses. This can cause repercussion from the government agencies for the company and that means no work for everyone. You must have someway of getting your dispatch call immediately. If you are to be away from your normal dispatch access (home phone) make sure someone at home knows where you are at all times and can get you quickly. Make sure if you have a cell phone or pager to give that number to the office and your crew/engine boss. If your number changes notify the office immediately. This is your responsibility to inform and plan your time away. Remember you are part of a team and no team can perform without all its players. If you are going out of the area and will not be available for dispatches for any amount of time, call the office or/and your crew/engine boss. This procedure will not meet with repercussions. It gives the company time to find a replacement for your position and puts less stress on dispatches. Not only secures your placement back with your crew. Do not wait until a dispatch and we call and you are not available. If you are called for a dispatch and cannot make the call or will be late, PLEASE call your crew/engine boss back as soon as you know and tell them what the problem is. Every dispatch is different and sometimes things change so we are able to accommodate or be a little more flexible. So be sure and call maybe there is a solution. This also may secure your position with the company. DO NOT BE LATE OR JUST NOT SHOW UP.
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE RULES, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS JOB!!!
